Recognition for substance
FrontierMeet recognises work that is rigorous, clearly presented and useful beyond its immediate field. Recognitions are decided by independent panels against criteria published before nominations open. No award has yet been made, and no award is endorsed by any outside organisation.
An award should tell you something true about the work.
Recognitions at FrontierMeet exist to point at contributions the panel found genuinely strong, and to say why. They are not a marketing device and not a reward for volume, visibility or seniority.
That is why criteria are published first, why panels are independent of the organisers, why conflicts are declared and recorded, and why a category may simply go unawarded in a year when nothing meets the standard.
Six categories
Each category will be awarded at each of the three conferences where the panel finds work meeting the standard.
Best Research Paper
For a peer-reviewed paper judged by the panel to make the most significant and rigorous contribution presented at a conference.
Emerging Researcher Award
For a student or early-career researcher whose presented contribution shows exceptional promise and care.
Applied Innovation Recognition
For work that translates research into a demonstrable application, tool, process or practice.
Outstanding Presentation
For clarity, rigour and engagement in the delivery of a presentation or poster on the day.
Research Impact Recognition
For research whose evidenced or clearly reasoned impact extends beyond its immediate field.
Distinguished Contribution
For sustained contribution to a field represented at FrontierMeet, as assessed by the panel.
How panels decide
- Merit, assessed against published criteriaEach category will have written criteria published before nominations open. Panels assess against those criteria and nothing else.
- Independent panelsRecognitions are decided by panels drawn from the Scientific Programme Committee and Peer Review Panel, not by the organisers alone.
- Transparency of processThe nomination route, timeline, panel composition by role and the basis of decisions will be documented and made available.
- ProportionRecognitions are made only where the panel finds work that meets the standard. A category may go unawarded in a given year.
Who may be recognised
Recognitions are open to contributions accepted for presentation at Intelligence 2027, BioFrontier 2027 or Silicon 2027, unless a category states otherwise.
The Emerging Researcher Award is intended for students and researchers in the early stage of their careers. The precise definition will be published with the criteria.
Distinguished Contribution may be awarded on nomination for sustained work in a field represented at FrontierMeet, independent of a single submission.
Membership of FrontierMeet is not a requirement for eligibility and confers no advantage in evaluation.
From criteria to record
Criteria published
Written criteria, eligibility and the timeline for each category are released ahead of the call.
Nominations open
Nominations are accepted through a documented route. Self-nomination will be permitted where a category allows it.
Panel evaluation
Panels evaluate nominations against the published criteria, with declarations of interest recorded.
Recognition on the day
Recognitions are announced during the closing session of the relevant conference.
Record
Recognised contributions are recorded with the category, the conference and the basis for the decision.
Statement
Panel members must declare any relationship with a nominee, their institution or their work, including co-authorship, supervision, employment, funding or close personal relationship within the preceding three years. A panel member with a declared conflict takes no part in the evaluation of that nomination. Declarations are recorded and retained with the decision.
